All it took was an extremely gentle rotation of the lens. In other words, try this if there's no obvious mechanical damage to the lens barrels that's causing the problem. My camera doesn't have a rubber cover for the usb port, so, similar to the "tapping" method, I turned the camera so the lens was pointing down and smacked the bottom Then I zoomed in and out until the silicone spray appeared to be dry. Put a fresh set of batteries back in (preferably rechargeable NiMH 2500mah or better) and turn the camera on. Help!
