Bob Sorry for this very late post, but for those who have dark/odd colour/desaturated images you need to add your camera profile under the colour management tab. The interface of UFRaw is not as convenient as I would like it to be, but it is a good utility, indeed! It seems that Gimp doesn't work natively in RAW so I did a google search and found UFRaw. It can also be invoked by attempting to open a RAW file from within GIMP. I downloaded these (http://gnuwin32.sourceforge.net/downlinks/jpeg-bin-zip.php - just extract jpeg62.dll from the zip; http://ufraw.sourceforge.net/Install/libpng12-0.dll) and popped them in C:\Program Files\UFRaw\bin.

The tool has quite a few controls for adjusting the image even before opening the converted file in GIMP and it can, indeed, be used as a stand alone program if Push the "Options" button and change the remote gimp command to "gimp-2.8.exe" in the "Settings" tab.
